Blog 12 - Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?
I actually did a lot over break and boy did it take a lot out of my time. I complete a lot of my mentoring hours and I started my first independent component during the beginning of the break.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
The most important thing I learned from what I did was not to wait so late to get work done. It ruins you in the future. I wasn't able to enjoy my break completely because I had to get senior project done. The source of what I learned was my misery of not being able to enjoy break.

3.  Your third interview will be a 10 question interview related to possible answers for your EQ. Who do you plan to talk to and why?
For my third interview, I plan to ask my summer architecture professor. I met him before and I hope he is willing to be able to spare a little of his time for me. He has a lot of experience in the field and hopefully shed knowledge on my topic.

Blog 1 - Senior Final Lesson/ Interview Reflection

1. What three lessons were most helpful for you to see, and why?

Three lessons that I learned that were most helpful to me was to be different, be engaging and interactive, and to not procrastinate. What I mean about being different is to be unique about my presentation. Being unique gives the presentation a different feel, where the audience isn't sitting through the same thing and are bored. To be engaging and interactive was one of the most helpful things because it kept the audience with you. They wouldn't be lost in their train of thought, rather they are actually learning something because of what I had to say was either something new or interesting. Not procrastinating is a big lesson I learned. Procrastinating can cause a lot of stress and the quality of my work can plummet, ultimately affecting my chances of a good grade. Something I do not want.

2. List one thing that you learned about the senior project in interviews that will help you get off to a good start?

One thing I learned about the senior project during the interviews, was to find multiple mentors early. One of the toughest part of senior project is finding mentors that are willingly to mentor me. Finding many mentors early will ensure me somebody that I can refer to if I need help. Finding a mentor can be difficult because some may not reply, some may take a while to reply, or some may even reject me.

3. What topic(s) are you considering, and why?

The topics I am considering are optometry, video game design, and architecture. I choose optometry as one of my potential topics because I think the eyes are one of the most fascinating parts of the human body. I want to learn more about them and plus, I have the best eye sight in my family. Video game design is another topic I am interested in, is because of course I enjoy video games. They are my hobby and being able to understand part of the development is pretty cool. Lastly, I choose architecture as a potential topic is because it evolves engineering. Engineering is one of my career paths and architecture is an idea that seems interesting.

4. What EQ do you think might be interesting to consider in guiding a project like this? (Please don't worry about any sort of formula...we want this question to come from your genuine interest).

Optometry: What is the most important factor to ensure returning clients ? Video Game Design: What is the most important aspect of video game design to include when creating a new video game? Architecture: What is the most important step when designing a building for a client?

5. What are some ideas you have about finding summer mentorship?

Ideas that I have that could find me a summer mentor is calling every optometry center. I can call hospitals or even optometry offices in Costco. I can call different video game companies that allow me to shadow someone without disrupting their work. I can also call family members and family friends that can hook me up with someone who can mentor me.
